Franklin City General District Court and Juvenile Domestic Relations District Court

  • (5 th Judicial District) are located at 1020 Pretlow Street.
  • General District Court is held on Mondays - Judge W. P. Councill usually presides in General District Court
  • Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court is held on Wednesdays - Judge A. Talton-Harris and R. S. Brewbaker, Jr. preside in Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
  • The City of Franklin does not have a Circuit Court. All Circuit Court matters take place at Southampton County Circuit Court, 22350 Main Street, Courtland Virginia. The Commonwealth's Attorney for Southampton County also prosecutes cases in the City of Franklin.
  • All felony Trials and Misdemeanor Appeals which involve offenses alleged to have occurred in the City of Franklin are heard in Southampton County Circuit Court. Felony preliminary hearings and misdemeanor trials for offenses alleged to have occurred in the City of Franklin take place in the General District or Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court of the City of Franklin.
